The School of Computer and Information Science is organizing a study tour for SCIS students to various ICT centres in India during the 2008/2009 Summer Vacation. This is an opportunity to really see what exciting developments are taking place in the IT sector in India. The IT sector in India is one of the most important industries and a number of dedicated IT hubs have been created throughout the country, catering for the ever increasing need for ICT and BPO services.
The tour will be for 2 weeks and students will be able to visit cities such as New Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune. Arrangements have been made to visit a number of different ICT based companies across India , from the large multinational to the small software houses and call centre operations.
A number of other cultural activities will be planned during the tour to allow students to experience first hand, the many wonderful cultural sights. This tour will be a fantastic experience and will provide a great perspective on the IT industry and a great outward bound experience. Those SCIS students attending the course may also be allowed to use the tour as credit towards project elective units.
Students will be expected to provide most of the funds for the tour, including air travel and living expenses. However some tour expenses will be subsidized in order to reduce the cost of travel. Students intending to participate on the tour are also encouraged to participate in group fund raising activities for the tour.
We are currently calling for participants. This call is open to all of the enrolled students at SCIS. Students who are interested in the tour should contact Dr Leisa Armstrong in SCIS, l.armstrong@ecu.edu.au or 9370 6506 for further information.
The tour will be limited to 20 students. The tour will be conducted under the supervision of up to 4 SCIS staff. Dr Leisa Armstrong will be the tour leader. Dr Armstrong is a regular visitor to India and is well versed in Indian customs and the Hindi language.
