SCIS Student Printing System

About

SCIS provides printing facilities to all it's on-campus students.

How

General Printing Instructions

  1. Use the mouse to select your print job, select the job with a single mouse click then click on the print button or simply double-click. Then swipe your "Copy Plus" card through the card reader located next to the "Print Release" station
  2. If your card is being used for the first time you'll be prompted for an Identification number.Please use your student ID number.This way If you lose your card your credits can be returned to you
  3. Once your swipe card has been validated you'll be asked to enter your PIN number.On first use you'll be prompted to confirm that number
  4. Enter your cards PIN number using the numeric keypad on the "Monitor" swipe card reader and select "Enter" on the keypad
  5. Upon validation of your card and PIN number a dialogue box will appear.This will indicate your current balance, number of pages to print, the cost of the job and the resultant balance of the transaction
  6. Select "Yes" to print your document.If you decide that you do not want continue with the transaction select "No"
  7. All outstanding print jobs will be cleared after 2 hours

Card Usage

Besides using your card for printing to the communal laser printers located in the Mount Lawley Building 13 second floor foyer or in Joondalup Building 19.113a, it can also be used for photocopying on any Photocopier located in all ECU libraries that utilise a swipe card system.

Initial Printer Credit Allocation

There is a web page where you can request an initial credit balance for your card. This is much like the old system where students recieved an initial balance on their printer credit. To claim this free credit, click here.

Requirements

You must purchase a printer credit card in order to use the SCIS printers. Card dispensers and Recharge stations are located in the MegaLab (Building 3 Room 195) and the third floor of the library on ML campus (Building 8).You will be able to purchase and recharge your cards in the Mount Lawley MegaLab 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.The following is a list of locations for all Card dispensers and Recharge stations on Mount Lawley and Joondalup campuses.

Q 29. How Do I Print?  comment on this FAQ

Q 30. How long does my print job stay on the queue?  comment on this FAQ

Any job submitted to the new print queues that has not been paid for within 2 hours will automatically be deleted from the print queue
 

Q 32. How much does printing to the SCIS printers cost?  comment on this FAQ

Printing is 11 cents for a black and white page and 55 cents for a colour page.

Q 33. I believe my balance is incorrect or that I was charged incorrectly for a printjob. How can I get this rectified?  comment on this FAQ

Central IT can be contacted to provide a print audit on your request. In order to do so, please contact Central IT. They can be contacted on Ext 6000 or in building 3 in the MegaLab on Mount Lawley campus.
 
If you have encountered a problem with the SCIS printers which has caused this situation, please be sure to notify the SCIS Help Desk to have that problem rectified.

Q 34. Can I print multiple print jobs at once?  comment on this FAQ

Yes, it is possible to print multiple print jobs at once. Simply send your print jobs to the print queue as usual. When you are ready to retrieve your print outs simply select each job you would like to print from the list of submitted print jobs on the "Print Release Station". If it has been more than 2 hours since you submitted a print job before you try to collect it you may find that it has been automatically deleted from the print queue. It is also possible to select mutilple jobs (more than 2) by using the mouse to highlight your print job selections

Q 35. What do I do if I forget my printer card PIN?  comment on this FAQ

You can request that your PIN be reset.
To do so, contact Central IT. Central IT can be contacted on Ext 6000 or in building 3 in the MegaLab on Mount Lawley campus.

Q 45. Can I connect to the SCIS Printers using my own laptop?  comment on this FAQ

Unfortunately not. However, you can copy documents to your home drive from your laptop and can then print them to our printers using the computers in our laboratories.

Q 153. When I try to print a web page, a blank page comes out, why is this?  comment on this FAQ

If a web page uses frames, Internet Explorer by default only prints the top frame, to print the whole page go File --> Print, choose the  Options tab and in the Print Frames section, select As laid out on screen.
