The School of Computer and Information Science computer labs are equipped with all the software and hardware required to complete your course.
There will be students who, because of their location or for other reasons, cannot use the labs available on ECU campuses. These students will require the use of a computer at home, or elsewhere, to complete the requirements of their course.
A minimum specification for your computer is:
* Some units may require the use of the Linux Operating System. Your unit coordinator can provide specific details.# Students considering online study should consider a broadband connection, if their location permits.
++ Students are eligible for academic discounts on most software from Microsoft, Macromedia and Adobe.
There may be requirements specific to particular units which require a higher specification in one or more areas - a USB key, a high performance graphics card, CD burner, network interface adaptor, specific application software and so on.
SCIS staff appreciate that this places an additional financial burden on students, but students should consider the expense an investment in their own future. Success in Information Technology requires familiarity with the tools of the trade. Remember, SCIS students can be confident that on completion of their chosen course they should have the skills necessary to proceed with rewarding careers in industry.
